Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced a series of new tools and features designed to expand commerce on its social media platforms on Tuesday, these included the addition of Shops on WhatsApp and visual search on Instagram.

Facebook Shops, launched in 2019, enable businesses to set up their own digital storefronts within Facebook or Instagram. Facebook is now bringing Shops to WhatsApp and Marketplace on Facebook, a move that CEO Mark Zuckerberg said will make it easier for people to find the products or brands they want to engage with.

Facebook will be introducing new commerce features to support businesses and make shopping easier: these will include Shops on WhatsApp and Marketplace, Instagram Visual Search and Shops Ads.

Facebook is to introduce Instagram Visual Search which is to help you discover products based on images that inspire you. Mark Jokingly said that “I’ll use it to find more grey t-shirts”

Shops on Marketplace couldn’t be left out since more than 1 billion people use Marketplace each month, Facebook is making it easy for businesses to bring their Shops into Marketplace to reach even more people.

Users will soon be able to view a Shop in WhatsApp so they can chat with a business before buying something. Businesses only need to set up their shop once to have it work across Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp.

Facebook is set to launch new Shop ads to personalize the shopping experience and point you to a Shop’s curated collection.
