Uganda’s telecom giants – MTN have in the past three weeks given away 3 Toyota Probox cars, 9 motorbikes, 15 TV sets in their MTN MoMoPay’s Christmas promotion. The promo targeted retailers, businesses, service providers and merchants who have adopted MTN Momo pay.
MoMoPay is an MTN Service that allows retailers and businesses to receive payments for goods and services using MTN Mobile Money. The service is free of charge for customers using it.
In this Christmas promotion, retailers and businesses stood a chance to win a Toyota Probox when they receive payments on the MTN MoMoPay.
These retailers are merchants or service providers that accept payments from customers that use the MoMoPay service to pay for goods and services. The service can be used by simply dialing *165*3#.
While speaking at the handover of the first Toyota Probox, Ali Monzer, the MTN General Manager, Mobile Financial Services said that the promotion is MTN’s way of giving back to merchants for adopting the service.
“Usually people take long to accept and uptake these kinds of services, but the response from merchants has been overwhelming. We felt the need to thank them and that’s why we launched this promotion.” Monzer added.
“The world is going cashless today. It’s now more convenient to be go cashless than to carry lots of cash on you. You can literally run your life using MoMoPay. You can pay for your meals, medication, car service, shopping and several other services using MoMoPay.”
MoMoPay is MTN’s way of creating convenience for customers and merchants alike. This service is available to merchants who register for the service and all MTN Mobile money customers.
Monzer also explained that customers on the other hand get 5% discount when they shop and pay using MoMoPay at any merchant location.
On December 5th, the first merchant – Chicken Tonight Kireka was given their first car. The car was collected by Dianah Ddamulira, Chicken Tonight’s general manager. Other winners that afternoon included: Charles Babigumira, PEP Stores Uganda represented by James Kiibi and Port Bell Supermarkets represented by Sarah Twongeirwe. All the three won Motorbikes Courtesy of MTN MoMoPay. Maxi Lounge, BOK Petroleum, Kibirige Andrew, Speke Hotel and Tropix Auto Spa all won TVs from MTN MoMoPay. Generally three other merchants won Motorbikes while five merchants walked away with Television sets courtesy of MTN MoMoPay Christmas promotion.
On December 12, 2019, Jonah Rogers Kakande, a businessman in Nansana, a popular township in Wakiso district became the second winner of a brand new Toyota Probox car in MTN’s Christmas MoMoPay promotion.
Again three merchants have won Motorbikes. These were FARIDAH WANYANA – MASAKA, ELIANA HOLDINGS LIMITED KAMPALA, KWERA BITS LTD KAMPALA-NTINDA
While five merchants walked away with Television sets. These included DON (U) LIMITED DEPOT 1 – KISENYI, MARCOS GYM AND HEALTH SPA LIMITED WAKISO- NAALYA, HAMZAH SSEKIGUDDE MASAKA, TAMU-KWELI FOODS RESTAURANT KAMPALA- KISWA, DIANA VANESSA BABAGAMBE
Yesterday, Catherine Nyachwo, a businessman in Mbalwa, a suburb in Wakiso district won a Toyota Probox car, becoming the third and final car winner in the MoMoPay Christmas promotion, marking the promo to an end.
